What is Rosh Hashanah?

Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, is a time of reflection, renewal, and hope. It marks the anniversary of the creation of the world and the beginning of the Ten Days of Awe, leading to Yom Kippur. Families and communities gather to celebrate with meaningful traditions such as the sounding of the shofar (ram’s horn), sharing festive meals, and enjoying symbolic foods like apples dipped in honey for a sweet year ahead.

More than just a holiday, Rosh Hashanah is an opportunity to pause, look back at the past year, and embrace the future with gratitude and new intentions.

This year Rosh Hashanah starts on September 22 to nightfall on September 24, is a joyous yet reflective Jewish holiday marking the start of the Jewish New Year (5786 in the Hebrew calendar).
